Join us for a fresh, elevated look at the Gray Matter Literacy (GML) procedure in this focused 5 Core Review session. Together, we’ll deepen our understanding of Sound Boxes and the Moveable Alphabet, exploring how these tools foster authentic, active engagement through discovery and exploration. With intentional attention to pacing, we’ll refine our practice to stay true to the purpose of the technique, ensuring each step supports meaningful, effective learning.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

  • Articulate the key components and purpose of the Gray Matter Literacy (GML) procedure
  • Demonstrate an understanding of how Sound Boxes and the Moveable Alphabet support active, authentic student engagement.
  • Apply intentional pacing strategies to maintain the integrity and effectiveness of the GML technique.
  • Identify best practices for guiding students through discovery and exploration using Sound Boxes and Moveable Alphabet.
  • Reflect on and refine their instructional approach to ensure alignment with the intended outcomes of the GML procedure.

About Your Speaker

Miriam Jordan, M.S.Ed., PCET

Miriam Jordan has been an educator for 36 years, beginning as a preschool and primary elementary classroom teacher and growing into roles as a mentor, educational therapist, and most recently, an adjunct professor. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Nova Southeastern University and her master’s degree from the University of Miami in early childhood special education. Miriam established a Discovery program at a Christian school and, in 2006, founded the nonprofit organization One Child At A Time, Inc., dedicated to meeting the needs of all learners in the community. After passing the baton in 2023, she expanded her impact into higher education. She continues to lead with purpose and passion, serving as an educational specialist, IEP Coordinator, and professor at Miami Dade College. Miriam has been married to her sweetheart for 42 years and is the proud mother of four children and grandmother to three grandbabies. Faith, trust, integrity, and relationship-building are at the heart of her educational approach, all grounded in a truly teachable spirit.
