SEARCH & TEACH© was developed by Archie A. Silver, M.D. (child psychiatrist) and Rosa A. Hagin, Ph.D. (psychologist) and the staff of the Learning Disorders Unit at New York University School of Medicine. It is based on extensive interdisciplinary research on the diagnosis and treatment of learning disorders and is now being implemented in diverse school settings throughout the U.S. Read Dr. Hagin’s article and find out why Search and Teach© is a powerful tool for identifying and preventing various problems in young children.
For over 15 years, NILD in partnership with Drs. Silver and Hagin has taught nearly 1,000 educators how to implement this powerful program for early childhood assessment and intervention. Upon completion of this workshop, participants will be equipped to fully implement both SEARCH and TEACH components.
Search & Teach workshop is a two-day training (2 full days).
Intervention Implementation:
- SEARCH, a 20-minute individual test designed to identify 5 and 6-year-olds vulnerable to learning difficulty, provides profiles of individual strengths and weaknesses in the foundational skills necessary for reading success.
- TEACH, a program of 55 learning tasks, was carefully developed and tested during a four-year investigation of pre-reading skills to address the needs revealed by SEARCH. It is an individualized program but does allow for some small group work of review activities with children of similar needs.
***Please note - The Search & Teach starter kit, replacement manuals, and test blanks are ordered from Shoestring Press at https://www.searchandteach.com/. This kit is required for the workshop and for administration of SEARCH. The TEACH toy kit is ordered from NILD's e-store at https://nild.org/products/complete-search-teach-puzzle-package.

- Read Chapters I and III in the SEARCH manual and Part One in the TEACH manual prior to your first Workshop training session.
- Complete the pre-training assignment (Inside the Covers) Click this link to download Inside the Covers S&T worksheet. This will be collected immediately upon entering your first Workshop training session. Have both SEARCH and TEACH manuals (NOT the entire kit) with you for the Workshop training sessions.

NOTE: Shoestring Press requires payment in advance by mailed check or credit card by phone only, so place your order early. You should allow at least 4 weeks for the receipt of your order. During your training, you will receive instructions for setting up your kit. Here are the labels for your folders to help with that process.
