Multiple Deficit View of the Factors Contributing to Dyslexia

Although many evaluators explore multiple risk factors when doing a comprehensive dyslexia evaluation, some states and definitions still only require a single deficit of phonological awareness. A comprehensive evaluation for dyslexia needs to include other risk factors in addition to phonological awareness. The presenter will explain other documented linguistic risk factors for dyslexia, such as orthographic processing, rapid automatized naming, and working memory. She will also briefly discuss how these risk factors were operationalized in the Tests of Dyslexia.
